Java is the original PC edition of Minecraft, joined from the Java launcher with a server address and an optional port. These listings are hosted for that client: mods, resource packs, and combat work the Java way, and a paid Java account is the normal way in unless the server is also marked cracked. Many networks publish a Java IP even when Bedrock can cross over. A Java tag means a desktop player can add the server and expect the mechanics they already know, from the hunger system to the debug screen. The world itself might be SMP, prison, or a minigame. The Java servers worth joining are ranked underneath.

Java listings are hosted for the original PC edition. You add a server address in the Java launcher, and mods, resource packs, and combat behave the Java way. A paid account is the normal ticket unless the server is also marked cracked. Many networks print a Java IP even when Bedrock can cross over. Use this category when you are on the desktop client and want mechanics you already know, from the debug screen to the hunger system. The world itself might be SMP, prison, or a minigame.
Only if the listing says so. A plain Java SMP accepts the vanilla launcher. A modded or FTB server does not. Read the version number and any pack name before you click play. If the page lists nothing but an IP, try a clean client first. If it names Forge, Fabric, or a pack, install that and nothing else.
A Java Minecraft server is a multiplayer server for Minecraft: Java Edition, the original PC version, running Java-based software like the official server.jar, Spigot, or Paper for custom plugins and mods. Unlike Bedrock servers, it supports extensive community modifications but is limited to desktop clients without native cross-play.
Easy hosting options for Minecraft Java servers include free services like Aternos and Minehut with instant web-based creation, and paid ones like Apex Hosting, BisectHosting, Shockbyte, and Sparked Host featuring one-click setups. They provide user-friendly panels, automatic modpack installs, DDoS protection, and global locations without manual port forwarding or jar management.
