Hardcore keeps the death penalty that single-player hardcore made famous. One death can ban you, drop you to spectator, or strip the life you had on that season. Some servers run a pure vanilla hardcore world with a shared seed and a public ban list. Others soften it: a limited number of lives, a buyback, or a season reset when too many regulars are gone. The map is still dangerous, difficulty is not set to peaceful, and showing off a long survival streak is the culture. You will see hardcore mixed with SMP and with lifesteal-style heart counts. Dying is the whole stakes of the season. We have put a list of Hardcore servers below.

Hardcore keeps a real penalty for dying. One death can ban you, drop you to spectator, or strip the life you had. Some servers run a shared vanilla world and a public ban list. Others allow a few lives, a buyback, or a reset when too many regulars are gone. Difficulty stays hostile. The culture is the streak. Read whether the ban is permanent or only until the next map, and do not bring a base you are unwilling to lose.
Hardcore punishes your own death. Lifesteal moves hearts between players when somebody gets the kill. A hardcore server might still use extra lives, but it is not usually a scoreboard of stolen health. If the page talks about banning at zero hearts after PVP kills, you are in lifesteal. If it talks about one life on a shared map, you are in hardcore.
A Hardcore Minecraft server is a multiplayer survival server set to Hard difficulty with permadeath, where players get one life and dying bans them or switches to spectator mode.
Hardcore seasons usually last until all players die, typically from weeks to several months based on player count and skill. Challenge servers like OneShot use fixed 30-day durations for multiple seasons.
