Treat the first session as a test. Register a password immediately if the server offers one, and do not reuse a name you care about on a paid network. A host that explains the auth step on the listing is easier to trust than one that says nothing. Your builds are only as safe as that login. If you already own Java, a paid server avoids this problem entirely.
